Midlands Blue Star Mothers Hosting PTSD, TBI and Suicide Prevention Panel Discussion

dash Nearly 2,000,000 men and women have served in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last 9 years.
dash 40% have served at least 2 tours, while 300,000 have served up to 5 tours.
dash 1 in 5 new veterans experience symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
dash 19% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury.
dash Last year, we lost more troops to suicide than we did on the battlefields.
dash In SC in 2009, there were 74 reported suicide attempts among veterans and 16 completions.
dash LESS THAN HALF OF THOSE SUFFERING PSYCHOLOGICAL AND NEUROLOGICAL INJURIES ARE RECEIVING SUFFICIENT TREATMENT.

Because we all encounter, many times unaware, those experiencing PTSD and other combat related issues we believe it is vital to the wellbeing of our veterans that everyone know what to look for, how to react and what help is available for our veterans.

On Thursday, September 23rd, the Midlands Chapter of Blue Star Mothers will be hosting an informational panel discussion addressing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and Suicide Prevention.

Topic experts from Hidden Wounds, the Dorn VA Hospital and other veterans’ organizations will be on-hand to discuss the signs and symptoms of these silent killers and how you can help those you encounter who may be dealing with these symptoms. We invite everyone concerned with the wellbeing of our returning warriors to attend.
